slightly older narcissa meeting james when she comes by the potter house to shout at sirius and tell him to “be reasonable” and james just staring at her from the doorway
james elbowing sirius in the stomach and hissing “do all your cousins look like that?” and sirius getting pissy because its not like hes JEALOUS okay but like “theyre death eaters james who CARES what they look like”

narcissa is the kind of badass who can deliver all insults and crushing emotional blows with a coldness that james doesn’t UNDERSTAND and james is the kind of boy who wears his heart on his sleeve but also has a mean streak and their fights would be explosive on his side and chilling on hers and inevitably always end with her biting out “this is obviously not going to work” and slamming the door and him sneering as he shouts after her “sorry i didnt bring a muggle to torture when i came for tea!”
years later, narcissa watching lucius brush out his hair before bed and immediately thinking of james potter’s very messy black hair and wanting to CRY
