“And,” said Harry doggedly, determined to say everything that was on his mind now he was here, “he kept looking over at the girls by the lake, hoping they were watching him!”
“Oh well, he always made a fool of himself whenever Lily was around,” said Sirius, shrugging. “He couldn’t stop himself showing off whenever he got near her.”
“How come she married him?” Harry asked miserably, “She hated him!”
“Nah, she didn’t,” said Sirius.
“She started going out with him in seventh year,” said Lupin.
“Once James had deflated his head a bit,” said Sirius.
“And stopped hexing people for the fun of it,” said Lupin.

Sirius pads into the kitchen in his stocking feet, asking, “Evans, what is that?”
“I’m married now,” she reminds him with a sigh. “To your best friend.”
“Yes? It’s one of the great tragedies of my life? How could I ever forget it? But what is that?”
They both look down at the pan on the stove and then Lily tries, “It’s. It’s eggnog?”
Sirius eyes her suspiciously, like he would have more readily believed her if she had said it was some sort of awful potion that could be slipped into his food and set to time-release so that James wouldn’t realise he was ill until Sirius was already in the spare room, dying.
Not that Lily would ever consider brewing anything like that, even if she does have three of the major ingredients already growing in her garden.
Sirius glances down at the hob again, then calls up the stairs, “James? Prongs! Come here for a second, mate?”
On this spot, on the night of 31 October 1981,
Lily and James Potter lost their lives.
Their son, Harry, remains the only wizard
ever to have survived the Killing Curse.
This house, invisible to Muggles, has been left
in its ruined state as a monument to the Potters
and as a reminder of the violence
that tore apart their family.

“You know what’s weird? All these gluten-free people.”
“I suppose? I mean. I don’t know. Talk me through it.”
“Okay,” James goes, beaming at Sirius, excited as fuck. He has to be excited enough for both of them, is the thing, because Sirius doesn’t seem excited at all, which isn’t cool, but like. James thinks he could be stoned, and that would excuse it, probably. "Like, me and Evans have people coming over for dinner tonight, small Christmas do, you know–“
”Yeah?“ Sirius interrupts, rather rudely. “I know? I’m invited?”

James goes to Whole Foods because, like.
He loves Sirius, and that means that he’s spent a lot of time with Regulus in his life, and so he likes Regulus, but he doesn’t like him enough to want him in his apartment on Christmas.
Yet, somehow, it’s Christmas Eve, and Regulus Black showed up at his front door an hour ago, saying he needed somewhere to stay, and, despite being a guest himself, Sirius had let him in, so James had to leave, like.
So that he could sulk.
And there’s no better place to do that than Whole Foods, because it’s massive, and half the people working there know his name, and a few of them have even seen him with Remus and Peter and Sirius before, so no one looks at him funny when he gets four cups of froyo from the self-serve station.

Alice has scheduled her last-minute shame-ridden shotgun wedding for a Thursday, which is annoying enough already, because it means that Lily has to take off work for the occasion.
Her boss asks, “Alice, is it? And what’s her lad’s name?“
“Erm, Frank Longbottom?"
Moody raises his eyebrows, like, "So, he’s posh, is it?”
Lily nods, and shifts awkwardly on her feet until Moody sighs, “Fine. But you’re covering two shifts next week to make it up."
And then it gets worse, because Lily gets back to her desk, discovers that a bouquet of sunflowers has been delivered in her absence, and the small card tucked amongst them reads,
