lesbians and bi women have a responsibility to stick up for each other. even when it’s scary. lesbophobia and biphobia in our communities won’t just disappear; we must actively dismantle them.
can i add? gay and bi men also have a duty to help combat lesbophobia and biphobia, as well as misogyny in lgbt spaces. mlm cannot let other mlm get away with disrespecting lbt women.
You know what’s interesting about Erasure/Hypervisibility dichotomy?
It goes beyond the fact that no, hypervisibility isn’t a privilege, it’s not a privilege to be made into a target and to have your entire group slandered in the media and in society.
The really interesting thing is that hypervisible people are erased too? Hypervisible groups of vulnerable people are still erased, the erasure is present in the complete lack of any Real and Authentic depictions of those people. The erasure is present in how their/our voices are pushed aside and ignored, even about their/our own problems. How their/our presence and accomplishments are pushed aside in favor of feasting on their/our pain and suffering to assuage liberal vulture guilt and the roman holiday fascination with suffering this society has got.
Hypervisible groups (like say trans women) are simultaneously hypervisible and erased. Because the hypervisibility is of a constructed slanderous monster target, a strawperson, a caricature. Everything else, the reality of these people’s lives is erased.
So when invisible and erased groups complain about their erasure and claim that hypervisible groups are somehow in the green for “representation”, they’re ignoring the fact that there’s just as much erasure present for those hypervisible groups.
It’s just selectively erasing our humanity to leave behind a monster that’s easier for people to want to destroy.
uh hey fuck the idea that it’s somehow more radical + revolutionary for straight people to break conventional gender norms than it is for gay people to do so. it’s not.
when you say shit like “she’s masculine but she’s NOT GAY isn’t that amazing” or “he’s feminine but he’s just SECURE IN HIS SEXUALITY” what you’re really saying is “isn’t it amazing that these people aren’t afraid of possibly being assumed as gay” which is shitty enough as it is meanwhile gay people are putting themselves in real danger by defying gender norms and being shamed for it for “conforming to stereotypes” while straight people are praised for doing the same
i love my lutuals (lesbian mutuals), gutuals (gay mutuals), butuals (bisexual mutuals), and tutuals (trans mutuals)
It’s exactly a year since the Pulse shooting so I wanna give a dedicated shout out to the Latinx lgbt+ community who were directly targeted last year, but continued to stay strong and resilient and are still here celebrating and showing pride with us. I hope you’re all having a safe and wonderful pride month 🌈
if youre closeted this pride season, its okay & you arent any less gay or bi or trans or nonbinary because of this. it doesnt mean youre ashamed or a bad person for not being out. dont feel pressured to have to come out, pride is for everyone & even if you arent ready to tell anyone you still belong here, you still matter, & we all support you!
This pride month let’s remember those who came before us, and remember our community’s history. Remember the AIDS crisis, remember the rainbow flag, remember stonewall. Remember black trans women and what they did for us.
happy pride month to every closeted and uncomfortable lgbt person out there who won’t be able to celebrate it at all. it’s still our month
hey listen, if you think crushes between straight kids are adorable and pure but you think it’s inappropriate to show the same type of puppy love between gay kids, you need to check yourself
