First and foremost, I am a lesbian. Let’s just get that out of the way.

What absolutely sickens me about my own community is the amount of biphobia within it. I have had friends who have sworn up and down that they would never date a woman who identified herself as bisexual.

Allow me to poke some holes in that opinion:

• The loudest argument I hear is “Well they don’t know what they want, what if they wake up one day and decide they’re not into girls anymore?” My dude, has that ever happened to YOU? Did you wake up on a Tuesday at the ass crack of dawn and think “Nope! No more vagina I’m just really not feeling boobs anymore please give me a strong man”. I guarantee you if a woman decides she isn’t interested in you anymore it has nothing to do with her sexuality.
• “They’re just going to cheat on me or leave me for a man.” Lol. Let me tell you a thing. Out of all of the women I have been in a relationship with (and not gonna lie that’s quite a few) the only women to ever cheat on me or leave me for someone else identified as lesbians. I have NEVER been in a situation with a bisexual woman that made me believe she would be unfaithful to me. Not once.
• “But aren’t you worried they’ll leave you since they can be attracted to ANYONE?” First of all, what. Secondly, what. And thirdly, and seriously, being unfaithful is a personal choice that has to do with an individual’s decision making, NOT their sexual orientation.
• “Okay but when they’re with a man they’re straight.” ………it’s like this is so stupid I can’t even come up with a counter argument. Their capability of being attracted to another gender doesn’t suddenly disappear once they’re in a committed relationship with someone.
• “I don’t want them at pride” Funny, I don’t want YOU at pride.

I have to be honest. When I was younger, I had experiences with girls who claimed to be bisexual but were only bicurious and treated me like an experimental toy that had no feelings. THAT is NOT a bisexual woman, that is someone who hasn’t identified her sexuality yet (and isn’t going about it very politely). What I like to do when I start a relationship with someone who identifies as bi or pansexual is tell them my experiences just so they know. But what I DONT do is hold the actions of someone else against them. That goes for anyone in any relationship.

In conclusion if you are a part of my community and have some of these negative opinions for our bisexuals out there, I hope reading this has at least changed your mind even a little. If not, fine. More sweetheart bisexuals for me.
